Wokeism is ruining being a geek

OK, rant time:

It used to be fun having geek hobbies and interests. You had this passion that maybe not everyone understood, but a certain group of people shared. Whether interest in sci-fi shows or games or computer programming or whatever, there was something that could bring a small group of people together in a shared interest.

This has changed with the rise of "being woke" over the last few years. Now, it seems that the woke agenda du jour is pushed in your face constantly by content creators and secular media, and has become more important than the actual geek interest. It's impossible to watch or listen to YouTube videos or podcasts without some wokeism creeping in. And of course, that is splitting the geek communities along political lines, usually by silencing and shouting down those who disagree.

A couple examples of what I mean from personal interests of mine:

On YouTube, a certain Magic the Gathering creator puts out some really interesting and fun stuff, and so develops a very large following. He'd make the occasional comment about homosexuality or transgenderism, but usually in passing. Eventually, he developed enough of a following that someone donated tens of thousands of dollars worth of extremely rare MtG cards. Each card on its own was worth hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each. He used the cards in a raffle to raise money for a charity. Did he choose Extra Life or Child's Play, two charities that give toys and games to children's hospitals? Did he choose one of the charities that work to end human trafficking? Nope. He chose a charity that provides counseling for black transgender "females" (men who have decided they're women). He raised over half a million dollars for this charity! Money that could have brought joy to children. Money that could have helped many women caught in human trafficking.

Another example, the need to virtue signal. I enjoy watching people play MtG on livestream and YouTube. It's fun and relaxing to put on and watch how people enjoy the same game that I enjoy. However, a number of players will make sure to put a "Black Lives Matter" or other woke slogan T-shirt, sticker, or image somewhere prominent where it shows up throughout the video. Podcasts also do this with some completely unnecessary comment during the recording. One in particular ended with, "Remember, black lives matter and so do black trans lives matter."

And I could write an entire essay about Star Trek: Wokism, I mean Star Trek: Discovery. It was bad enough for its putting virtue signaling in our faces from the beginning, but has doubled-down on this garbage with two young women being added. One of them claims to be non-binary gender (which doesn't exist), and the other is a young transgender "man". And of course, they're in a relationship.

How do we combat this? I don't know. Obviously, prayer is essential, but how do we also put our concerns into action in the world? Us geeks oppose this should put out our own content, but that's easier said than done, especially going against people who have large followings. We need to speak out against it, but most of the social media platforms will just deplatform you before you have a chance to make any difference. (Which is why I'm posting this rant here!)

Ultimately, this is just a rant to get it off my chest, and maybe someone will have some better ideas of how to stop it.
